Have you heard the track Franks 2000 inch TV by Weird al? I have it some

That Weird Al Yankovic chap doesn't get enough air play imho.

One of his best parodies was called "Amish Paradise", a superb parody
on the "Gangster Paradise" original. Not only did it take the **** out
both the original song _and_ the Amish, its musical production values
were also notably better.

with a physical mechanical link? I saw that sort described in the web.

It was wireless, and didn't require line-of-sight - it may have been
radio controlled, but I don't remember for sure - it was a _long_ time
ago! The manual may be in one of the old boxes in the loft.

The early remote controls were "ultrasonic".

That does sound familiar.

Yes, you could often jangle your keys, and that would cause the TV to
change channel.

People in Holland neither imported early US color TVs, nor bought
colour TVs before colour was transmitted here.

Trying to remember the first Philips TVs with remote controls. Third
generation colour sets? Just when did Holland go colour?

the dog from that film you saw wrote:
first remote tv i ever saw belonged to my grandmother.
it had 3 buttons - volume up and down and change channel - it would
cycle through them.
sticking the remote against my ear i could clearly hear the high pitched
sound issuing forth.

First one I saw was on an IIRC Grundig TV. A hybrid design with some
valves. Switching it 'off' via the remote left the valve heaters on. So it
would switch on again quickly. Of course the average owner never read the
warnings, and left it in standby. Kept the fire service quite busy.

The early remote controls were "ultrasonic".

Caged birds interfered with them. Also the rattling of keys.

My brothers TV had a good 'off' it fired a solenoid and literally reset
the on off switch on the TV. It was an ITT with ultrasonic remote.

A result of Dr Demento taking his radio show off the air

and making it an Internet paid subscription only service.

In the 1970s.

I already posted evidence that Philips had remote controls long before
that. Time to admit that you or your memory are wrong?

Colour television commenced in the Netherlands on 21st September 1967. Here
in the UK, I got a 19" colour TV in 1968 (can't remember the make), followed
by a Saba in 1972, then a Philips two years after that. None of them had
remote controls. The first TV I got with remote was a Grundig in the late
1970s. There wasn't any great demand for remote controls with only 3
channels to watch.

Holland were later than the UK going colour, but all those buying sets
could afford remote control ones?
