Strange how ITV not consistent with local ITV1 on Freesat HD
As for the BBC blanking out HD freesat BBC1 when local news on is beyond me just plain stupid. At our house I tune to 108 Freesat for BBC 6pm News then 30 minutes later program disappears my wife then uses her RC to tune to 101 (SD) and there it stops all evening, we might as well not have HD. We were about to embark at Dover, when (J G Miller) came
up to me and whispered: Dave, Dejavu, Challenge, and Challenge +1 All owned by UKTV, which is a joint venture between two commercial companies. the British Broadcasting Corporation is not one of them, though it's subsidiary, BBC Worldwide is the junior partner in the company. So, no, as I expected, there are no commercial BBC Channels. -- Paul Cummins - Always a NetHead Wasting Bandwidth since 1981 IF you think this http://bit.ly/u5EP3p is cruel please sign this http://bit.ly/sKkzEx ---- If it's below this line, I didn't write it ---- |

And Film4. Even if the relay was not converted, more than 70% of the population was in reach of a C5 analogue transmitter, just many of them had neither the time or inclination (or money) to put up a second aerial for the out of band (90% of the time) and different direction of the weaker C5 transmitter. To be fair, I've been lucky. When C5 launched, I was 7 miles from Croydon, and now I'm 7 miles from Hannington. -- Paul Cummins - Always a NetHead Wasting Bandwidth since 1981 IF you think this http://bit.ly/u5EP3p is cruel please sign this http://bit.ly/sKkzEx ---- If it's below this line, I didn't write it ---- |

Strange how ITV not consistent with local ITV1 on Freesat HD On satellite there are (as far as I can tell) only three ITV1 HD streams -- ITV-1 HD London (which is DVB-s), ITV-1 HD Granada (which is DVB-s2) and ITV1-HD Merdidian South East, which is DVB-s2 but strangely is Videoguard encrypted so is only available to $ky receivers. So as you rightly observe, ITV-1 HD except for the Granada and London regions, and for $ky subscribers in Merdian South East is far from consistent. And then there is ITV-1 +1 variations which are six mega regions, so again there is much inconsistency and viewers like yourself in West Yorkshire who miss Calendar at 18:00h are required to watch (as far as I am aware) Granada Reports at 19:00h. As for the BBC blanking out HD freesat BBC1 when local news on is beyond me just plain stupid. Not entirely -- surely they would have to pay the BBC London announcers a large increase in salary because instead of just having their work shewn in the London region, they are now being shewn throughout Her Britannic Majesty's realm? At our house I tune to 108 Freesat for BBC 6pm News then 30 minutes later program disappears my wife then uses her RC to tune to 101 (SD) and there it stops all evening, we might as well not have HD. I thought that digital receivers could be pre-programmed to change stations, in some interfaces referred to as "reserved"? So all you need do is look at the EPG for the evening, push a few buttons, and then never have to worry about using the remote control to change stations for you again that evening. My personal opinion is that putting BBC-1 HD on LCN 108 was illogical and inconsistent. Grouping all the HD stations together as on Freeview is much more convenient and user friendly, and should have been done as N51 : BBC 1 HD N52 : BBC HD N53 : stv HD / UTV HD / ITV-1 HD N54 : C4 N55 : S4C Clirlun where N is null for Freeview, and 1 for Freesat It will be interesting to see how these are in fact numbered if the Grand Freeview EPG realignment goes ahead and the HD streams are moved to the 100+ positions. |

Yes and one of those two companies is the BBC commercial company BBC Worldwide as you state. BBC Worldwide is most definitely not the junior partner and there is repeatedly talk of the BBC buying out Scripps Networks Interactive share of the business. From http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2011/04_april/27/vision.shtml QUOTE The Director, BBC Vision is responsible for BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Three, BBC Four, BBC One HD, BBC HD and BBC Films. He also oversees Vision Productions and has *editorial oversight for UKTV*. UNQUOTE Do you understand what that means? The same man who is responsible for the BBC 1,2,3,4 is the same man who is responsible for editorial oversight (ie program content) on the UKTV stations. Therefore the UKTV stations are clearly BBC commercial stations under the direct editorial control of a senior BBC (not BBC Worldwide) executive. |

Depends on your taste in films, but Film4 show loads of unusual and hard to gets that are never shown on C4. That was certainly true before Film 4 went FTA, and was a premium subscription service on Sky, but nowadays is that really the case ? Tonight's film at the 'flagship' 21:00hrs slot, is 'Assault of Precinct 13' hardly esoteric, and at 01:20hrs, Predator, (yet again); yawn. -- Mark Please replace invalid and invalid with gmx and net to reply. www.paras.org.uk |

That's 81 sites. The remaining 1070 relay sites that only carry three muxes, serve between them less than 10% of the remaining UK population. -- Mark Please replace invalid and invalid with gmx and net to reply. www.paras.org.uk |
