Yes I've tried that, it's a Technomate TM 5402HD STB and all the other
16:9
channels are fine, in fact what I've done is switched Sky news on the
telly
between Sat and Freeview both (via HDMI) and combined the two pictures, so
you can get a better idea of the problem, most odd, that's why I wondered
if
it's a transmission problem.

Both pictures look to have the wrong aspect ratio.

They weren't grabs, just photos quickly taken off the TV screen using a
relatively cheap compact digital camera that unfortunately sufferers from
severe parallax errors (which I did apologies for in my original post).

Also the picture was only put up on Dropbox to give some idea of the
problem, which has been sorted now, hopefully my post explaining the
eventual outcome did show up on this tread, as for some reason although they
always appear on my computer, I know for a fact that they don't always show
up on others, presumably something to do the with Virgin Media server and
probably not unconnected with a declining interest in Usenet now that there
are so many other more up to date forms of social communication available.

hecking out Lyngsat indicates that it's

Which is now exactly the same as the UK one; iirc, SNIre ceased some
time ago.

The programme content may be the same but the adverts are different. I
just checked to confirm that.

Prices are in EUROs rather than English punts, eh?

smile

The two differences I noticed when I looked early were that at one point
both SN UK and SN Eire were showing the same UNICEF charity advert but
the UK one had an English-accent voiceover and the Irish one an
Irish-accent voiceover It is likely that those two ads gave different
contact details. And then when SN UK was showing a QuickQuid advert
Irish SN was showing something else.
