Treating the whole thing completely seriously would make it

Well if you know that your entry is never going to win,
it is best not to take it seriously.

And if you are not going to take it seriously, then you are
never going to win ...

(Self-defeating cycle eh?)

If I understand correctly, second last this year?

but winners in the past, when it was still mainly a Western ESC.

Many thought the ESC was a joke from its inception.

It is an entertainment show rather than a serious competition.

Then it fails in its primary purpose.

It fails in its primary purpose as a ***song*** contest. The European
bit is very iffy too.

And it fails to be entertaining (to me).

We were about to embark at Dover, when lid
(Mark) came up to me and whispered:

The test card would be cheaper and more entertaining.

I don't think it would be cheaper...

(Drifting off topic) Was Terry Wogan fired or did he choose to step
down?

He stepped down.

To spend more time with his money
Steve Terry

Was he pushed, or did he have a bit of a fall?

He walked. Concerning his Taxi business some say under US federal law
he would have served time for racketeering.

But here we don't have any anti racketeering laws
