Well if you know that your entry is never going to win,
it is best not to take it seriously.

And if you are not going to take it seriously, then you are
never going to win ...

(Self-defeating cycle eh?)

If I understand correctly, second last this year?

but winners in the past, when it was still mainly a Western ESC.

Many thought the ESC was a joke from its inception.

It is an entertainment show rather than a serious competition.

They were correct.

Britain's Got Talent was won by a dog.

Next year it'll be won by a turd.

The "Big Five", who are the countries who as a result of paying most
towards it, go straight into the final.

GB wouldn't ever be in the final otherwise.

apparently it does still work out as the cheapest 3 hours of prime time
event television of the year though.

The test card would be cheaper and more entertaining.

I spent the time trying to guess which visual elements were real and
which where virtual.

I decided that the water fountain was fake, but was proved wrong when
Jedward got its hair wet.

Are you saying that Jedward are real?

They are. Unfortunately, some would say, Jedward are not a CGI creation
that can be switched off when not needed.

If they were CGI then they'd be able to mime (and dance) better.

It fails in its primary purpose as a ***song*** contest. The European
bit is very iffy too.

And it fails to be entertaining (to me).

Cheaper than pumping out 30 year old episodes of TOTPs?

It's on BBC 2 every weekday evening ATM. If the BBC used a test card
instead of ancient repeats people might notice and query what they
were getting in return for the licence fee..

I'd imagine some old episodes of TOTP would be a lot more entertaining
than the EvSC.

However the BBC is self-destructing ATM as they are cutting most of
their decent programmes (what's left of them).

I've been watching some of them. Come back Pan's People and Legs & Co
(Lovely Babs... can't remember her name though...) I'm about old enough
to remember some of them, and it's sheer nostalgia for me.

EvSC? No way.
