But not in terms of functionality. Who cares how well a VCR is
constructed if it can't record off-air any more, and the picture looks
like the low-resolution **** it really is on a decent HD TV.

OTOH who cares how many functions a device has if it is broken?

Personally I'd rather have something that lasts. Reliability and
features would be nice but that doesn't seem possible nowadays. I've
got loads of old consumer electronic kit that still works and loads of
failed modern cr*p.

My DVD player still delivers picture and sound so I'd be reluctant to
throw that out.
