Same here on BBC 4 Freesat, all the way through the Brian Cox program on
nuclear fusion, with signal at over 80 per cent.

That programme was fine here, from Emley Moor.

And it strikes me that they'd better hurry up and get fusion working.

It has worked for years. The problem is that energy out is only a tiny
fraction of the energy needed for the magnetic or laser confinement.

Is that what you call 'working'? You should be employed by the council.
They put more energy in than ever comes out.

I am relieved to read this as I have been blaming the wind for moving my
dish, or wondering if there was a problem with the LNB. The problem is
sporadic. Usually poor reception is consistently bad.

On the programme in question, occasionally it had all the symptoms of flaky
reception, picture break up with loud pops on sound, although mostly it had
the effect of jumpiness, as if frames had been dropped.

My bins are empted by Stockport Waste & Recycling. The only part
contracted out is bulky item collection.

Oh sorry, should it have been spelt "wheer" in local parlance,
and not "muck" but "mook" maybe?

No, the bit I was commenting on was 'thar's'. As I'm sure you know the
Yorkshire accent and dialect varies enormously, but you'd never hear
'thar's'. Probably the phrase would be something like 'where thiz muck
thiz brass'. Certainly around here 'where' would be pronounced 'where',
but in a lot of places it would be 'weer'. Our accent/dielect here is
strongly influenced by the Notts accent, because of the influx of miners
from that area a hundred years ago.

I confess I was probably making the almost unforgiveable faux pas
and mixing it up with the Lancashire accent, which would of course be
more appropriate for our Stockport correspondent.

Yes that does sound more appropriate for east of the Pennines.

No. Basically every program all the way through the entire evening
yesterdaysuffered intermittently from glitching, meaning that the
whole of yesterday's output was barely watchable. I'm particularly
gutted, because I've been recording Dennis Potter's "The Singing
Detective", and last night's episode was ruined.

On the programme in question, occasionally it had all the symptoms of flaky
reception, picture break up with loud pops on sound, although mostly it had
the effect of jumpiness, as if frames had been dropped.

Yes.

As every program was affected, although I'm not really qualified to
say, I would guess there was a problem at the playout suite, or
whatever it's called. But, for chrissake, couldn't they, as back in
the 'good old days', have interrupted the first programme affected,
reputedly Top Of The Pops '77 at 1930hrs, apologise with a notice and
"In the meantime here is some music", and FIXED it. Ok, so TOTP77
would have been a write-off, but at least the rest of the evening's
output would have been saved.

And, BTW, WTF is TOTP77 doing on BBC4 anyway? I wouldn't have wanted
to watch it even back in '77, let alone now. Old Grey Whistle Test,
yes, TOTP, only under compulsion, which I would have relieved by
taking the p*ss out of it.

Or the Isle of Man for its blend of Scouse and Irish. Or Whitby for its
blend of the Hull accent and the Middlesbrough one.

I have been to Stockport on two occasions in fact. Stockport
having prior to the infamous Heath-Walker reforms of April 1st, 1974
been in Cheshire, would not have had Lancashire accents of course,
but its residents would I guess be more familiar with them than
foreign accents from East of the Pennines.

i'm enjoying it - especially because you get the crap with the good,
putting to rest the myth that music was better in the past - it's just
that time is the filter that means you only remember the good.
with TOTP 2 you would never get something awful like the ' oh superman '

What caught my attention about the show a few weeks back were 1. the
guy in the white jumper with a golliwog on the front of it, and 2. The
picture of a Ford Cortina half-way through a car wash to illustrate
