HD TV - Do I need 1080P?
 

I have signed up for Sky +HD, at the moment I have a 42 Inch Plasma TV
which is 720P. Will I get the benefit of the full HD on this TV? Is
there any benefit in upgrading to a 1080P TV at the moment?
If an upgrade is advisable, I am looking at the Samsung 46 Inch LED TV
UE46D6100, as this is the top end of my budget.

to view a 1080i broadcast in full detail - wich is what sky hd channels
are, you need a 1080p tv.
having said that, you may be perfectly happy with how it looks when
downconverted to 720p - so why not try first before deciding?

my LG 720p reports 1080i when fed with HDMI from Sky HD why would this be?

because that's what it's receiving.
you could set the sky box to output 720p but you'd probably notice no
difference.
it probably says 576i for regular channels - but it's still a 720p screen
