TTTWOT - The 6310i lives again?
Look out peeps, an (enhanced) 6310 is about to hit the European
(and UK) market. Originally intended for Africa and Asia the Nokia 101 is a simple phone largely driven by icons (for those that cannot read - should suit the UK perfectly,) has FM radio, mp3 (on micro SD card up to 16Gb,) and - this is the best bit - a talktime of 8.5 hours and a standby time of 32 days!! It will also take two SIMs simultaneously. It does not have a touch screen and the radio or mp3 can be played through the speaker. It does NOT have a camera, 3G, or wi-fi but does use Edge. Price? in Europe it will be E25 (£22) without contract - I hate to think how high they will manage to push it up over here but I might just buy one if I can find any colour other than PINK! I loved my old 6310i (had to hand it in when I left BT), but I've just bought an as-new refurb from eBay. Very pleased with it - just as good as I remember. It's a great implementation of "just what you need, and nothing more", and was advanced for its time (e.g. voice dialling, Bluetooth). Plus an enormous standby time by modern standards - well over a week. I'm a bit of a nerd about phones, I think. I also have a Palm Treo 680 (one of the first "smart" phones) and also a classic, and the Motorola PEBL, which is dead clever because it's one of the very few clamshell phones you can open with just one hand. It also has good functionality - another example of what-you-need-and-no-more. Of course I've had to buy an Android phone to see what all the fuss is about. The Orange San Francisco (aka ZTE Blade) is great value for money. I rooted and zapped it as soon as I bought it, and installed a plain Android 2.2 build. So, Woody, where can I read about the new Nokia 101? -- SteveT |

So, Woody, where can I read about the new Nokia 101? Sorry, I should have Googled first. The 100 looks even more "elegant in its simplicity". Only one SIM, no music player, no memory expansion, no MP3 ring tones, BUT a claimed standby of up to 840 hours. Oh, poop! Neither support Bluetooth. Quite a set back, that is. It's handy to be able to use a Bluetooth headset. Anyway, apart from that they look pretty cool. -- SteveT |

I don't use it that much for calls, but I get about a fortnight out of a charge -- Alex |
