Logik, UMC, e-motion, Technika all made in Slovakia. Company is UMC
which is an offspring of a Taiwanese outfit. Sainsbury actually list Slovakia in the specification. The old Chechoslavakia were well know for their quality rifles etc so I would say they are probably able to deliver a degree of quality. |

Also from Czechoslovakia - the original Skoda cars. :-) Now from the Czech republic, Skoda cars have the best build quality and are the most reliable of any mass produced brand in the VW Group, beating SEAT, VW and premium brand Audi. |

Indeed. We have to be careful not to make assumptions based on country of origin. During the communist era Skoda made cheap cars which were not perfect, and another branch of the company made nuclear reactors which seemed to work without drama. I seem to recall that the central hub of that giant bicycle wheel in London called the London Eye was made by Skoda. -- Peter Duncanson (in uk.tech.digital-tv) |

I had cause to speak to some gal in their technical support, confused as I was with some dumb firmware that they had programmed their TVs with. She was nice. Should have asked her out on a date ... I'm reading this on a 19" UMC monitor with analogue TV tuner branded Swisstec. It's well worth more than the £50 I paid second hand for it. The only problem I've had was not being able to find a remote for it. -- Ian |

Skoda Works, the remainder of the company from which Skoda Auto was demerged, also makes "trolleybuses, tramcars, electric locomotives, electric multiple units and rapid transit train systems" according to Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skoda_Works |
