Panasonic DMR-EX75EB: Forgets the time
Panasonic DMR-EX75EB
I have had this recorder for several years. I switch it off at the mains every night, and until a few days ago it has worked perfectly. Now, however, when I switch it on at the mains, I find that it has lost the time and all the program settings. I now have to reset the clock/calendar and rescan before I can use the machine. I wondered if there was an internal backup battery in the recorder that had run down (like in PCs), but looking through the Operating Instructions manual I cannot find any mention of a backup battery. So what do I do now? Ian |

It's a recording machine for making unattended recordings, and as such it is designed to be left powered all the time. Why are you surprised that it doesn't work properly when not used as intended? No, of course, due to the ubiquitous "No User-Serviceable Parts Inside" business. I'd open it up and take a look anyway. Nothing to lose. SteveT |

Don't switch it off then. No, because they don't want Joe Public poking about inside. So what do I do now? Take the lid off and have a look. Of course, this is the one time you should switch it off! |

That does seem a bit annoying, as there are often power cuts and one would
have thought it could retain info, I mean my old Sony Betamax can still retain the programming through a nights power cut. So what do I do now? If it's worked before but doesn't now, it could be as you say, the backup battery. You have nothing to lose opening it up and having a look around. The backup battery should be fairly obvious. If it's not a button cell, it could be some kind of package with red and black wires plugged into the main board. If it's the latter, it may be more difficult. I suspect it'll be a button cell and only cost a couple of quid to replace. |
