Oh, that stirs ancient memories! When I was training to be a teacher we had to do 'Linguistics'. The lecturer was a tiny American
gent who used to sit on his desk and swing his legs. He went on and on about the Indo-European theory until I thought my head
would split. I can't remember whether he thought it was true or false. He also had a thing about phonemes, and would make us all
say b-b-b-b-b-b-b and k-k-k-k-k-k for what seemed like hours. He was pally with a Welshman on the staff who taught us Classical
Mythology. I've never, ever, in my chuffing life been so ****ing bored. They would have spoilt another couple, I can tell you.
Some years later I had an OU lecturer who commenced the Geology course with the words, "Now I have to teach you something called
Plate Tectonics. I will teach it, as best as I can, but I must inform you now that the theory is nonsense and within the next ten
years will be totally discredited."

What amazes me is continental drift in general wasn't a mainstream theory
until the 20th century The world looks like a giant jigsaw FFS any child can see that ;)

Oh and you would have thought that some enterprising ancient Greek would
have discovered that blood circulates centuries before Harvey in 1628.
