LibCon Cuts -- S4C2, Cymru's second network to close
 

The much loved second network of S4C, S4C2 and home of coverage of Cynulliad
Cenedlaethol Cymru and Royal Wesh Show is to be closed in the near future.

Due to the financial difficulties of S4C authority, which have been exacerbated
by the ruthless budgets cuts of the Liberal Conservative administration,
S4C2, which has been reduced to a mere caption card for numerous months,
the station is to fade to black and relinquish its position on the digital EPG.

Surely when the people of Cymru come to vote on the next step towards independence
on March 3rd, 2011, they will take this act of infamy into account in their

have you watched it - if so you're one of the few who have.
as a welsh person i can assure you, most people never wanted s4c let alone
s4c2 - it was just done to appease nutters - including one guy who went on
hunger strike until it was launched!
the viweing figures are microscopic too - they'd have done just as well to
visit you in your house and act stuff out live. - wouldn't have cost any
more.

Wrong. It's only S4C2 that's closing. Although if they do cut coverage
of the eisteddfod and RWS then maybe S4C will close.

Viewing figures are small for S4C2 anyway.

I thought the idea of S4C was to have programs in the Welsh language.

It is perfectly possible for programs of local events (in English) to appear
on regional BBC/ITV. Indeed, the local farmer's "fair" in my sister's area
is shown on regional TV.

It was and it does. S4C2 on the other hand seemed to be filled - like
the parliament channel - with the [rather dull] proceedings of the Welsh
Assembly which will now be broadcast late night.

Well hopefully the vast majority will think that virtually pointless
channels / programs like the above are a luxury they can happily do without.
Perhaps something people will watch, and advertisers will pay for, will be
put on instead...
