Top quality interconnects...

Anyone remember www.russandrews.com, our favourite reseller of quality A/V
cables? The desire for a 20m HDMI cable really stops me from eating so I
can buy one. Those digital pixels will look so much better with a silver
hand-tested tint... (http://www.russandrews.com/product.asp?lookup=1
&region=UK&currency=GBP&pf_id=2729 @ £1432.80)

So you can imagine the devastation by the ASA suggesting (again) it may not
all be so wonderful...

Eurogamer did a test of HDMI cables

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/di...oundry-vs-hdmi

The summary is that an HDMI cable either works or it doesn't and when it
doesn't the artifacts are very visible.

Indeed so, but for HDMI cables which are not in a permanent connection and
used intermittently, one should also consider the quality of construction,
physical robustness, and ease of handling of the plugs.

And it is also worthwhile checking on the version of HDMI which the
cable claims to support, since v1.4 is required to properly support
3D with mode switching.

Nonetheless one should never need to spend more than say GBP 15 - 20,
and anything under GBP 10 will probably be more than adequate.

That can't be right. My mother's local Comet was full of HDMI cables
costing only £69.99 and surely they wouldn't stock them if they weren't
essential....?

Well as has been mentioned before, consumer electronics chain stores and
some supermarkets sell vastly overpriced cables.

The cables which are sold are so expensive not because of their intrinsic
material worth or even manufacturing cost, but because that is what the
store thinks people are prepared to pay, and will think the item is
of superlative performance and quality because it costs so much.

After all, if you have just spent GBP 500 - GBP 1000 on a television,
surely GBP 70 on a cable to connect to your BluRay player is a small
price to pay as the snake oil salesman would say.

And would you like an extended warranty with that for peace of mind?

So low that, no doubt, he'll give it to you free since you are buying the
TV. :-)

I found out a long time ago that if you say something totally absurd on
here as a joke some silly bugger will always jump in and explain the
true facts, as if to a child. To be honest, that's the main reason I say
absurd things (apart from when I don't realise they're absurd).
