Someone in this newsgroup has suggested that Humax forgot to book a slot
on the Engineering Channel for the upgrades.

Do you reckon this is suitable for the HDR-FOX T2 as well? Strangely,
the HDR isn't listed on Humax's Download Centre dropdown boxes.

That's great - thanks Ian.

These betas definitely seem to be ahead of the "official" versions
which were due to be broadcast this week. I'm happy to run beta
software, so will give then a try.

Thanks again,

So far my experience with the HD Fox-T2 single tuner PVR download hasn't
been to happy, some of the problems I've encountered so far have been.. it
intermittently informs me that the USB2 device has been removed (the only
way to restore it's is by switching the receiver off and on again) not very
good in the middle of recording a programme.. occasional complete lockup,
necessitating unplugging from the mains.. no visual indication whatsoever on
the receiver that it's actually in record mode.. pressing the V-format
button 'always' results in a lockup, which again can only be cured by
disconnecting the power, also even the SD .ts recordings are not recognized
on any other device or PC player, which IMV makes the use of a small
portable HDD drive pretty pointless really (my £50.00 Grundig 3 USB recorder
is much better in this respect) perhaps you could let me know how you get
on, I'd be interested to hear.

thanks Peter. Downloaded and followed instructions but nothing happens. What
would the 'root directory' be. I just copied the file to a USB stick after
altering the name?

It's easiest to explain what a file in the root directory is not! It is
a file that is not in a folder on the USB stick.

I have never updated my STB via a USB stick so I'll leave someone else
to answer your question.

Presumably the top level directory on the USB memory stick
ie not in a directory/sub-directory.

but nothing happens

This could be due to a number of factors

1) the USB memory stick is not being recognized and the file system on the
USB memory stick is not mounted by the device

2) the name of the file is not appropriate for the device to load
as an update file

3) the file is not in the correct format eg was it downloaded as
a .zip file and it needs to be unpacked and the .bin file
needs to be put on the USB memory stick. Note this is just
an example and you need to read the instructions specific
to your device

4) the downloaded file is corrupt

I right clicked on the download file, extracted it to a new folder copied
the file (already) named hd_fox_t2_upgrade.hdf and pasted it into an empty
USB stick, (not all USB sticks work with the HD fox-T2) it will ask you to
hold in the standby button while switching the on off switch on the back of
the receiver, unfortunately it doesn't have one, so just hold in the standby
button for about 20 seconds and it should then start the install. --

I've just this afternoon done my HDR, which apparently is a bit
different from your HD, as mine definitely has a power switch on the
back (a rocker switch on the left side, looking from the front, and
very near the edge).

Anyway, all I did was switch the power off, plug the USB stick in, and
then switch the power back on again. It immediately loaded the new
software.

"In the root directory" just means "not in a folder". Just copy the
file to your USB stick, making sure it doesn't go into a folder on the
USB stick.

If you've got nothing on the USB stick, you could simply format it
again (using FAT32) to make usre it's completely blank, then you can be
sure there is nowhere for the file to go but the right place.

You'll need to format a HDD drive in situ, as it's ext 3, I couldn't get
mine to record to a USB stick, even after it had been formatted.

Did you go to "Settings", "System", "Storage", "Data Storage", and
select your HDD?

It will need to be formatted, which means you should be prepared to use
it
exclusively with your PVR.

It can probably be used by your PC with a lot of faffing around.
