If you get annoyed by the current five DOG, you are going to like
the one that is coming to your screens soon even less.

I don't watch channels with DOG ****.

I don't usually either. I do find that /where/ the DOG is makes a big
difference to how annoying the DOG is. Top left, followed by top
right are the worst. DOGs at the bottom I find less distracting but I
would prefer there were none.

I don't watch C5 at all.

I never seem to notice on-screen channel idents. If I did notice them I
wouldn't care. It's only like something in the corner of your
windscreen. You don't have to look at it if you don't want to. Most TV
pictures include large amounts of irrelevance: the studio wall, the far
distance in an outdoor shot. I don't look at them; I look at the
interesting things on the screen.

If you have a busy life there just isn't time to worry about such things.

Since I no longer have any involvement with the making of TV programmes, I
tend not to give a toss about anything on screen that doesn't interest me,
and as a result I find I can almost enjoy some of the programmes now.

However, that doesn't mean *nobody* should pay any attention to the
technical niceties. It's a shame that fewer people nowadays seem to care
about the quality of what they do.

What if the DOG is covering up a face? It's quite common to position
active speakers in the top left corner.

If you have a busy life there just isn't time to worry about such things.

I don't worry about DOGs but I avoid watching programs on channels
that use DOGs.

Yes. As a cyclist, that would be I then.

Or me. I'm a cyclist as well. But I meant (as you full well know)
something like a parking permit. Cyclists are 'part of the action!'

With my TV set, the entire image is what I regard as sacrosanct, not what
some marketing arsehole deems as important to themselves.

I propose a counter deal with The BBC: They can write DOG **** on MY tv
picture if I have carte blanche permission to come along to their own
private houses and write my own drivel on their TV sets, mirrors, and
windows at any time I choose.
