I wonder if the partners have envisaged paying ISPs for the bandwidth.

the user pays their ISP - it's the fault of the ISP if they don't charge
their users enough.

But those who only want audio, will they be charged. I'm already getting a
bit fed up with having to have pictures when I only want sound on so many
things.

I'm with you on this. I often download TV shows such as "Question Time"
onto my MP3 player, discarding the video. It would be nice to be able to
just "hear" the program instead of having to waste bandwidth on the video
feed.

It's surprising when one starts thinking about it, just how many TV
programmes would actually work almost equally as well on radio.

Indeed. In the old VHF days I listened to many a TV show on the radio!

Yes, why do they send a crew hundreds of miles to show a reporter standing
outside of a building, simply to tell viewers something that could be just
as easily and meaningfully imparted by the studio bound newsreader?

It's the same all over the news.

An item about transport shows footage of trains, buses, cars etc.

Education, we see schoolchildren's legs.

Obesity, footage of fat people.

All as if we've never seen these things before.

BTW, can anyone tell me what snow looks like? :¬)

Conversely, it's surprising how few programme makers actually know how
to use the visual element. I do agree about not needing the visuals
for a lot of programmes. I tend to "watch" quite a bit of TV on the PC
and frequently just minimise the TV application (or switch to another
desktop) and get all the meaning just from the sound.

out of focus fat people at that.
it's as if they employ short sighted cameramen and kinky ones with a foot
fetish for the stories about children.

They do. Lots of old TV comedies have been adapted for radio.
