Am I missing something here? I thought that to enable the record
function to work on a Sky+ box then you have to subscribe to various
Sky packages and/or pay a tenner a month.

I didn't think you could use the Sky+ finction when receiving Freesat

I am not receiving freesat, I have a valid sky subscription card and pay
£ 26 per month for Variety/Knowledge and Sky Sports 1.

Is there any Freeveiw HD channels on Sky ?

the channels from freeview HD - bbc hd, itv hd, four HD are available
through a sky HD box via satellite- plus channel 5 hd which isn't on
freeview HD.

Are these free though, no subscription needed ?

yes - at most you'll need one of the free to air cards - cant be bothered
to take my card out to find out.

No card is need to receive BBC HD or ITV HD, you need a Free To View card to
receive C4HD, and AIUI some form of Sky HD sub for C5 HD.

Free to Air cards don't exist, because FTA broadcasts are unencrypted.

bothered to take my card out to find out.

It's less effort than actually typing you 'can't be bothered'.

FiveHD is exactly the same as C4HD - a FTV card will work fine. It is E4HD
which needs a SkyHD subscription.
