Strange behaviour on CBeebies!
Young Ben (11 months) was becoming rather a challenge just now, so I
wondered if a bit of visual stimulation might help. Accordingly I turned on our nice little Sony flat screen kitchen telly and selected preset 71. Instead of CBeebies sound and picture what we got was the sound, and a pale blue screen with the programme information near the top in very small text. Near the bottom there was a horizontal line about 10mm high that appeared to have colour bars along it. I'd say 95% of the screen area was just pale blue. I didn't really study this display though because Ben was squawking like mad by this time, so I just turned the telly off and on again and everything was normal. Oh I forgot to say, the telly wouldn't change channel or alter volume or anything at all while this blue screen was on, but it did switch on/ off OK using the remote. Bill |

Is it possible that it had received an overnight 'upgrade'? Every so often, in the morning, the STB (now feeding only a hard disk recorder) in the living room is locked up, and needs a reboot. Over the years, this has happened with at least three different boxes, but never (I think) with the Sony flat screen TV, which we've had for around 18 months. I'm pretty sure that some of the other STBs used in 'the study' have also done the same. I'm also pretty sure that often, some STBs have definitely been left in standby but, in the morning, have been 'on' - and, I think, often been locked up. Again, is this evidence of an upgrade? -- Ian |

The trouble was that their offering required 2x the processing power and 4x the RAM of competing compact OSs. In the case I am aware of, M$ was rejected despite pressure from the higher ups who thought it was a great idea. -- fred FIVE TV's superbright logo - not the DOG's, it's ******** |

I know you were saying that you were having difficulty finding staff who could use a screwdriver, but isn't 11 months taking "Start 'em young!" a bit far? Ben is an interesting baby. He looks round all the time and seems to be taking everything in. He can't walk yet but he loves to play chase, with him crawling at an incredible speed while I chase him. The other day he was being pushed between the aisles of a rather cramped minimart. He put out both arms and swept bottles and cans off the shelves, then laughed like mad at the chaos. This morning when he woke up (very early) he seemed a bit distressed, probably because mum wasn't there, so I scooped him up and put him next to me in bed and we had a nice cuddle. This seemed to work well and he became very placid and playful. I wish I'd examined him a bit more closely though because he'd had diarrhea and his nappy had leaked. It was all down his legs and half way up his back. So I had to bath him (by gum, it was stuck to his legs like superglue) and bath me, and change my bed, and change his cot. At that point his mum texted to ask if he was OK. I don't know what the washing machine thought. I don't know what the diarrhea was all about either. He's been fine all day, no temperature or anything, and very lively. Maybe it was a one off. Bill |
