Freeview Tuner part wanted.
Hi, I've been trying to get hold of a tuner for a Matsui DTR2 or
equivalent, but have given up on this course. I don't mind fiddling, I have a suspicion that the transistor at the aerial input (RF maybe a FET) has failed as water came down the aerial and it was covered in corrosion. I can't read any number on it, but it is a tiny surface mount device. Does anyone have an old tuner from a freeview box, not really bothered what make, I just want to experiment. it may or may not work. I just bought a DTR1 at a boot sale, no remote, for a quid, thinking I would salvage the tuner out of that. It is identical except it has a clock display on the front. However, it works, it just needed retuning, so I'm not going to wreck it. If anyone has an old tuner in a scrap box (maybe a power failure or similar) they want to get rid of, drop me a line. You can reply here or email me by removing the caps from my address above. Alternatively if anyone can suggest a suitable part that I could try (I used to be a TV engineer and repaired the odd tuner now and again when someone wanted a cheap repair) then let me know. There is some marking on the part, it's just so small that my eyes can't read it. I put my nail under the transistor and it came off the PCB, minus the leads, so I'm pretty sure that's the culprit. |

Do you have a household refuse yard near you? They're usually run by contractors who answer to the local council, officially - they're not allowed to put salvaged items out on the yard for sale and anything saleable is supposed to go to auction. Have a clearout so you can use "dumping rubbish" as a pretext for visiting the yard, usually the lads who do the hard graft are only too eager to make the odd fiver here and there (I can't remember the last time the manager was actually on site at the dump near me) ask about the possibility of a scrap STB for spares - you might even get lucky and find the exact same model. If the site manager is a snotty jobsworth - try the neighbouring towns. |

AFAIK our local yard is council run and there they actually have a container stuffed with shelves where everything salvageable is for sale. Official policy. |
