Rog anything but phillips? :O) seriously I heard enough bad things about phillips dvdr when I first started looking that I never even touched them. I would echo that. My first DVD videorecorder was Philips. Never again. It went wrong after a couple of years and they refused to service it. They offered to sell me a 'replacement' *at their full wholesale price* instead. How generous! But the 'replacement' didn't even have the same features as the one it was claimed to 'replace'. (I had already tried one and found it was rubbish.) Given the way they behaved, in disregard of UK/EU consumer rights, I decided never to buy anything branded 'Philips' again. Since happily used Panasonic recorders. Slainte, Jim -- Please use the address on the audiomisc page if you wish to email me. To make things worse they had a single (outsourced) service company. So a local repairer could not even get any parts or info. The attitude was simply to offer a 'replacement' at full wholesale price. Take it or leave it, squire. Same as - when it worked - the recorder gave nice results. Left me feeling that they have good development labs, and a lousy attitude to reliability and customer support. Slainte, Jim -- Please use the address on the audiomisc page if you wish to email me. Goggle just failed to find me their web site should they still be there. Regards David PS regards the Philips sub contractor I think they just replace at a reduced price unless anyone can report they repaired theirs. I also wonder if the supplied replacements are brand new or refurbished ones? |

As someone who dealt with them back in the days of AES and then CES, it would be nice to be able to relate that back in those far off halcyon days their attitude and attention to customer support was so much better:( |

At that time I held them in high regard. These days they just seem to be a brand name logo on boxes they get designed and made 'wherever'. One consequence I guess was that the 'replacement' I was offerred clearly hadn't been designed by anyone who knew about the previous recorder. Not even fully compatible with discs recorded on the earlier machine. Slainte, Jim -- Please use the address on the audiomisc page if you wish to email me.
