Apparently over the last few months (the currently expensive) DVB-T2
chipsets have already started to drop in price, and with other countries set
to adopt T2, scale of production should dictate that prices will come down
even further.

Of course costs of such things always fall with time. BUT - exactly what
other countries do you expect? AFAIR only 2 or 3 (including the UK) have
plans to use DVB-T2

It would seem a good idea to use T2 for SD then we could have more HD
channels with the saved space.

At the expense of preventing EVERY existing Freeview STB and IDTV (except
those brand new ones with a DVB-T2 chipset) from watching anything at
all ever again!

I've actually swapped back to scooters again.
I bought a Vespa GTS300 in January and sold the bike.

It is called planned obsolescence. Without it the manufacturers
in the People's Republic of China would be put out of business.

Do you care nothing for the long term employment of low paid
Chinese workers?

Back in 2002/3 I sold a fair number of Daewoo STBs, at the then going rate
of £129.99!
Around six years later (because of the split NIT) they were all rendered
obsolete, which meant that around '250,000' of them were destined to end
their existence in landfills, however not only did I not receive a single
query or complaint, but neither did any other dealer I know, one of them who
must have sold literally dozens.
Experience tells me that you'll always get the occasional person who will
make a lot of noise about even a £25.00 item 'only lasting four years',
however in the main the majority of people will maybe have a moan, put
things in perspective and then move on.

I knew that but....... I never said it was practical.
