DVD to mobile phone?
Anyone rip DVDs onto their mobile (MPEG4-AVC, .mp4)? If so, what software
do you use (Windows only please)? I've got DVDDecrypter so have extracted the data off the DVD but am really looking for something with the simplicity of SimpleDivx to act as a front end when producing MP4s. I've found the "Nokia tablet" converter but that only produces 400-odd x lesss resolution. My target is 640x360 which is tha native resolution of the phone. Thanks, Paul DS |

Thanks, Paul DS I used to use http://www.any-video-converter.com/ for MP4s (and others) but as my HTC Desire plays DivX files I rarely bother anymore. Still a good product though, and I think there may be a free version somewhere..... http://www.any-video-converter.com/p...or_video_free/ here 'tis |

Got a working MP4 video onto my phone first time. Now I need to improve the bitrates etc but exactly what I want! My children thought it was great watching a video on my phone; my wife was somewhat less impressed. The generation gap no doubt :-) Paul DS. |

There is something in the working of the human brain physically and psychologically that seems to prefer a large screen at a distance than a small screen close up even if they both have the same resolution and occupy the same field of view (subtend the same angle). It is perhaps to do with seeing things at a natural distance. -- Peter Duncanson (in uk.tech.digital-tv) |

I remember it did a good job in the past but DivX has taken over for me at the mo. I'm a generally lazy sod tho, if it works it works and I don't tend to sod around with the bit rates etc. |

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "Paul D.Smith" saying something like: Anyone rip DVDs onto their mobile (MPEG4-AVC, .mp4)? If so, what software do you use (Windows only please)? Google for SUPER - it's a fantastic freeby. |

It could possibly be something to do with the ability to share the experience with other people. Once upon a time that's the way people used to watch television. Small screen but reasonable resolution at 640x360 (16:9) Paul DS I had a play last night and whacked the video bitrate up to 768 and the audio to 192. Much better all round and remarkably watchable on such a small screen. I then got excited and wired the phone up to a 32inch LCD (the phone has TV out!). Best I could say is that if I were trapped in a hotel room with my children on a wet day, with nothing else to watch, they would probably watch it. Very pixellated but I suspect this is more to do with expanding the 640x360 image to fill a 32 inch screen. To give an idea of file size, a 1hr 40 DVD took about 700MB at these settings. Not too back given I have an 8GB SDHC card an could, if I wanted, put in a 16GB. So an amusing diversion in case I ever need this. Paul DS. |
