So a mate has asked me to find out for him about tv aerials.
He lives inMottram near Hyde in Cheshire and get pictures from the Winter
Hill Transmitter.
Am I right in suggesting a group c/d aerial to him.
The Granada region is now all digital.

Yes. And it's still C/D post switchover, including the HD MUX.
