FreeSat / SkyBox
 

Hi All,

I have currently got a FreeSat installation, the dish and the lead goes
directly into the back of my TV which has the built in receiver.

I am wondering, what would happen if i bought one of these Skybox's you see
in the paper?
Put the dish lead into the back of them, then the skybox receiver to the TV?

Apart from the obvious risk that the skybox from the paper is probably a
duff, would I be able then get both SkyTV ( free channels like SkyNews )
AND FreeSat as now via the skybox?

you'd get the free channels but not the freesat epg - you'd get the sky
guide.
you'd also need a free to view card for some channels - a one off cost - eg
channel 4 and 5 ( unless anything's changed recently)

When one can buy a dedicated SD Freesat STB for as little as £29.99, or even
an HD version for £67.00 both, presumably covered by a 12 month warranty,
why bugger around with second-hand Sky STBs ?

Some of the channels i miss, like Sky News, Living and Bravo, are not
covered by freeView in my area.

I was thinking that i could maybe get these back via the sky box.

Well you can add Sky News and other free to air channels in a neat little,
reasonably simple to access, sub menu, but AIUI (I stand to be corrected)
both Living and Bravo are channels in the Sky subscription service, which
you would have to pay for anyway.

living and bravo are pay channels.
sky news is free to air - any satellite box will tune into that.

Agreed, however he didn't say whether or not he receives Freeview, if so
then everything else such as CBS Drama, Reality, Action, Zone Horror, BBC
and ITV HD, full screen iplayer, along with a plethora of extra news
channels is a very worthwhile added bonus.

living and bravo are pay channels.
sky news is free to air - any satellite box will tune into that.





I can get FreeView, but it doesnt carry half the channels in my area, like i
cannot get skynews which i miss :o(

I'd have thought a cheapo freview box assuming reasonable terrestrial would
solve most missing stuff problems and then they could keep the sat connected
to the tv.
