If we can hear the problem, why isn't it noticed during shooting? Chris -- Chris J Dixon Nottingham UK Have dancing shoes, will ceilidh. |

Audio on news OBs is a right pain these days - a lot of our Sony cameras only have unbalanced phono outputs (at domestic levels as well), so trying to use them with radio camera links (which are now ubiquitous) is always going to end up with crap results. There is usually only 1 channel of radio mic. as well (via the camera audio channel) and given that most of the reporters seem unable to 'work' the mic. these days usually either reporter or interviewee(s) are off mic. at some point. Then there's the delay problem when the picture goes via the radio camera and the sound doesn't (or can't for other reasons, as happened to me last week, which causes much moaning from the studio). Maybe when we go solid state somebody will think about doing it properly, but I really doubt it. As you say, nobody really cares, apart from the people on the ground trying to do a decent job. It's OK tonight anyway. Bill |
