"Jim" wrote in message ... Is it possible to turn off the Freeview channel ident ? This issue has come up very frequently in this newsgroup. Most people find it infuriating and totally unnecessary. After all, you know what channel it is because you switched your telly to it! It especially drives me mad that they put the bloody logo on BBC HD. Anyway, there is no way of removing it, because it's built into the normal picture transport stream, so your TV has no way of separating it from the "real" picture. SteveT |

It must be possible to cancel out a part of the picture that remains static for more than a certain time. All we need is some company to make a suitable gadget to do the cancel! But what would you fill the resultant 'hole' with? An average of the surrounding picture? Surely, it could end up being more distracting than the unwanted ident? V |

V There wouldn't be a hole for the static time chosen as the rest of the picture is still moving. Some of the moving picture must be covered by static bit. I'm not suggesting it would be just a simple inverted screen area as there has to be a time period involved. Even if a hole were produced it must be possible to fill it with something less noticeable. The average you mention may be one possible filler. By concidence I was just looking at an Adobe demo of so-called "content- aware filling": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NH0aEp1oDOI I'm sure that it would be possible to do a reasonably good job of removing logos and so on with similar techniques. -- Richard -- Please remember to mention me / in tapes you leave behind. |

Or at least that's the line the channel producers take. Apparently you are an exception in that your memory works for longer than the average TV program ;-). Paul DS. |
