F1 in HD this year?

Does anyone know if formula one will be shown in HD this year, or will it be
as slow in coming as it was with widescreen?

The BBC have said that it won't be HD this year, but the above aren't the
only two choices. Presumably it will NOT be as slow arriving as widescreen
was!

Purely a matter of economics. If the BBC want it in widescreen then they
have to pay more. Given the cost pressures they are under I doubt they will
pay.

This is totally wrong! FOM TV (the "in house" TV company which produces
the "World Feed" for almost all circuits) has *NOT* got an HD feed available
- to any broadcaster - for this season!

Nothing to do with BBC economics!

Which seems a pity, as along with the World Cup, IMO it would also provide a
boost for the fledgling DVB T2 service.

That's purely false and Brain has already posted the reasons why. It would
be helpful if you didn't present your guesses as if they were facts :-(.

My understanding is that you are both wrong. FOM certainly does have the HD
available, but will not release it unless they are paid. Bernie seldom lets
anything go if he thinks he can get a few more million.

No. The BBC says:

"We will not be able to provide F1 coverage in high definition this
year. The BBC relies on Formula 1 Management (FOM) for the provision of
all of its live pictures and as such the broadcasting of high
definition pictures is dependent upon whether FOM uses HD cameras or
not."

Sadly, we've lost one of the red button channels due to the DVB HD
start up, so the on board is going split screen this year, but on the
bright side we still get all the practice sessions on 301.

Ok which parts of "The BBC have said that it won't be HD this year" or
"the above aren't the only two choices" are wrong then? What I wrote was
correct.

FOM certainly does have the HD

Then by all means quote an authoritative source, instead of presenting
your understandings as facts. :-(

When I emailed BBC sport earlier and asked them this year the reply was that
the reason for no F1 HD was cost of the rights.
