We were watching "The Light Fantastc" on BBC 4 on our fairly new
Pannylcd tv. It was constanly interrupted by a black screen and a rectangular box containg the words "no service". We switched to the signal from our old Pioneer DVD recorder and had no further problems. We only have the one aerial and it's new so why was the signal OK via the DVD via the TV but not on the TV itself? Anyone know? Bob |

Maybe you have a borderline signal and the DVD recorder is better able to handle it, how does the TV receive its signal presumably looped through the DVD recorder? if it continues to happen try the aerial plugged directly into the TV and if that doesn't cure it then it's quite possible that the TV itself may be faulty. |

If I interpret this right, you originally had your aerial connected directly to the TV but then connected the aerial to the DVD recorder and from the DVD to the TV but were still using the DTT tuner in your TV. If that is so, I would suggest that their is some gain in the DVD loop through path (6dB would be quite reasonable) which made the difference. This suggests that the signal level from your (new) aerial is marginal. Unless anybody comes up with anything more inspirational, I'd suggest that you get your aerial installer back. Your location/PostCode would help to identify if there are particular problems in your area. Read the recent posts he http://tinyurl.com/y9bljxg and you will see what help is available to you if you provide the right details. -- Terry |

The aerial does go to the tv via the dvd recorder. I checked the signal and quality via the tv set-up menu, all digital channels show 10 out of 10 on both. Signal is from Mendip, we are about 22 miles away near the top of a hill. We probably have line of sight from the aerial position above the chimney. We've never had this problem before, or since come to that. Very odd. Would splitting the cable to feed the tv and dvd directly help or hinder do you think? Bob |
