New (old) Sky Dish

Hi all

Is there any clever "link" between a $ky box and the digibox it serves?
I was left a dish and box by some friends who were emirating.
This has worked pretty well for the last 3 years, but there tends to be some
break-up in summer.
I have read that this is likely to be a flakey lnb.
So I have been given another dish (quad lnb) and wondered whether the box
could tell or was "matched" to the supplied dish.

TIA

Phil

Historically there may have been a few LNB / box combinations that were problematic,
but this is very much the exception than the rule.
If you are in the UK you shouldn't have a problem, but note that break-up
can be a symptom of a faulty box , especially old Grundigs.

Yep, an LNB with sunstroke or could also be the dish looking out through
trees which are in leaf in summer? How clear is the satellite to dish path?

Could be the dish needing alignment. What signal quality are you showing?

Signal strength is less important, but you shouldn't have a very low level.

And a slightly misaligned dish as things age and are morelossy than they
used to be.

Thanks to all for info/links
Having tried 2 boxes, with similar results, the lnb/dish still look likely.
The fact that I will go quad from single is sufficient incentive for the
dish change in any case.
Signal quality was 70-90 - strength nearer 50.
Dish was originally aligned on tv output then checked with meter.
No real interuption to signal path AFAICS

And in humid areas, may also suffer from some sort of moss or tree
"fungus" starting to grow on them.

Not in the slightest.
