... Thunderbolts are perfect if you really have to drill into brickwork as they don't rely on expamsion and won't split the bricks. I wasn't sure about them at first, but wouldn't use anything else now. They really are perfect for fixing Sky dishes to brickwork! These sound interesting. What are they and how do they work? I've done a quick Google but can't seem to find anything very useful - probably because I don't know what I'm looking for. Incidentally, have you tried resin fixings? I needed to fix a very heavy weight to my inside wall, and the Thermalite blocks are so bloody soft I just couldn't get a reliable fastening. Then I discovered that special bolt fixing resin you can get. You drill a hole ALMOST all the way through the block (it works best when the hole is blind), pump the resin in, and then push/screw a threaded rod into it. Leave it for a few hours and the nett result is immensly strong - you could probably pull the wall down with it. The long cure time makes me doubt whether it would be of practical use to an aerial rigger, though. SteveT |

Digging a hole in Goodrich Castle car park under the charge of an overseer with a map of all the local services, there were some unemployed (technically they were actually on one of these multitudinous 'Work While You Claim Benefit' or 'Be Paid A Pittance To Do Socially Useful Work Instead Of Claiming Benefit' or similar scheme designed to reduce the then current headline 3 million unemployment rate). What you mean as opposed to the present 2.46 million (and going to get a whole lot worse when the public sector etc starts to have a clear out) along with another circa 2.5 million people on 'incapacity' benefit? |

Is this primarily due to degradation from sun light and UV irradiation? Some of the black ones are advertised as uv proof. I find that all black ones are OK, but other colours tend to perish. There's always the risk though that you'll happily work your way through 500 black ties and start to realise, months later, that in fact they are not uv proof! When ties first came on the market (incidentally they were about 20p each!) I had no idea about the uv problem. I ran a catenery over a main road and when I went back a year later the CT167 was hanging in loops and threatening to catch on the double deckers! Whoops! *Over the wire The technique used the old Rediffusion wired/cable distribution company used to be for a chimneys, prosperous bronze lashing wire along with heavy duty galvanised brackets, or for walls half round brackets held by *Rawlbolts, the catenery was supported by stainless steel wire, with the cable attached by a copper spiral spring which was pulled and stretched over the cable and stainless steel wire. Call me sad if you will, but I still notice the odd catenery which I know has stood the test of time for the best part of 50 years, despite the company now being long defunct. Yes, that was a good technique. I once had the job of removing all the Rediffusion cables from three streets and it was a mega task. Bill |

It may get worse if Labour stays in power, it will certainly get much worse if the Tories win. One should recall that some free market economists consider a greater than baseline level of unemployment a desirable feature because it keeps down wage costs and means higher profits viz bigger directors bonuses and large dividend cheques for the stockholders. If people are afraid of losing their job and becoming unemployed, they are much less likely to engage in industrial action for better conditions and pay. |
