Surely the job description for the caption designer included "must be able
to spell"?

Or maybe it doesn't matter?

Or no-one cares?

Or no-one else at the Beeb can spell either.

It's becoming an increasingly rare skill.

Or perhaps they are increasingly relying on speech recognition? which
despite predictive text still seems to get confused with words like.. there,
their.. witch, which.. wear, were, where etc.

We should have all listened to the BNP. We now have people in UK jobs that
can't speak or understand English and schools failed by crap teachers.

Really? How would the BNP have taught them English then?

Are you suggesting that the bad spellers are of immigrant background?

The traditional white British can lead the world in bad spelling. If it
were an Olympic sport we would get gold medals.

The BBC website is little better. 'Miniscule' is a favourite spelling.

For your information, the caption is, "Amy Winehouse: Tears Dry On There
Own," so it's the common confusion of 'their' and 'there'. (I assume you can
get your text reading device to spell words out - or does it check grammar
as well?)

Did she spell it Massa-chew-sets?

And in other matters concerning pronunciation, there is no "t" in
Michigan.

There's a sign in Windsor Great Park telling passers by that a
particular tree is a Penduculate Oak planted by His Worshipful the Mayor.

They don't seem to care.

That was the original spelling on Amy Winehouse's album so the caption
spelling was in fact 'correct' in this context!

Hmm... I fear I stand corrected! I confess I Googled the 'incorrect'
spelling and there were plenty of references to 'there' instead of 'their'
in the title so I thought it was a deliberate mispelling.

I am now wearing sackcloth and ashes... (Oo-er missus!) Sorreeee!
