"Jack Rabbitt" wrote in message ... Hi All, As ive just got my excellent new telly up, i want to make sure im getting the best picture my budget will allow for a minute. Ive heard that getting gold platted scart leads which go from the video/DVD to the tv will greatly increase the picture quality, is this true or shall i just leave what i have in there now? Thanks Gold is irrelevant unless you are frequently plugging and unplugging the connector, so I would buy gold plated for professional use or for a mini HDMI to connect your camera. Otherwise decent HDMI cables are cheap (even with gold plating) and as the signal either gets there or it doesn't the quality is not that critical. Thanks If the broadcasters don't use it what's the point of viewers doing so? For example, audio is jumpered in BBC premises in 2.5 lb tin plated copper cable. i.e. phone wire! Video uses stuff broadly similar to coax aerial cable. Plugs and sockets are never gold plated. Richard |

Lastly, make sure you have lithium batteries in your remote. Yebut I just put Tescos half price lithiums in my Wii remotes, I reckoned they would vibrate stronger for longer. Shall I go back to zinc carbon? Depends on how long you want your vibrators to run for. Tim I wouldn't want them to discharge prematurely. -- Graham. %Profound_observation% Oh come now....surely not. It turned out if you put gold plated SIMMs into lead/tin sockets you got problems. Tin SIMMs in tin sockets, and gold in gold, both worked fine. Andy |

Gold is a good conductor of electricity which is why it it is used on computer components and is worth recovering. It also does not tarnish so the gold contacts are more likely to stay good. Whether it is worth paying for a gold plated scart lead really depends on the price. With a bit of googling you may well be able to get one at a reasonable price. -- Michael Chare |
