Is there any DVD recorder that does not have an interface obviously designed by a dyslexic parrot and Stanley unwin then? Panasonic DMR-EZ28. 180 in Argos and elsewhere. If a user is accustomed to using a VCR and mostly watches live TV with occasional time-shifting and occasionally wanting to save a programme on the shelf (archiving), and may want to watch commercial recordings as well, a pure DVDR plus an IDTV would be the way to convert from analogue to digital. Combined DVR/DVDRs are usually complicated to use due to all the different functionalities. A pure DVR (PVR) would require a DVD player as well and can't archive programmes. A pure DVR could be added to the DVDR later if more timeshifting is required, and could be a twin tuner model (allowing two programmes to be recorded at once), which is rare in combination DVR/DVDRs. So people who refuse to believe a DVR is actually easier to use than what they're used to, can avoid the "fright" of new technology by moving the difficult-to-use paradigm they're used to with VHS onto DVD- R. Genius. It's spotting gaps in the market like that, that make people millionaires. Never mind logic and reason - spot what people's irrational fears will make them want, and deliver it! btw, "If a user ... mostly watches live TV with occasional time- shifting..." For those who have embraced the 21st century: "live TV" - Why?! For those born in the 21st century: "live TV" - What?! :-) I watch very little 'live', I record practically everything I want to watch, then if it is a commercial station, I can skip through 5 minutes of adverts in about 20 seconds.
