TV aerial signal 'retransmitter'

I seem to remember many years ago that someone (Thomson?) made a device
which took the signal from a TV aerial, frequency upshifted it up into the
GHz band, than a second remote box received and downshifted it out to a
coax plug to act like a virtual aerial. Of course I can't find anything
like it now that I need one. Perhaps I just imagined it :(

Basically I want to get a decent signal to a TV and/or STB in a room where
it will be very difficult to get a feed via a DA and coax from the main
aerial (and I don't want to put up another aerial - Had lots of fun with
the parents 2-aerial setup already!). Any ideas?

What I don't want is a video sender - Just a signal that looks like it's
direct from the aerial. I have tried a couple of powered indoor aerials.
Some days they work really well, other days they are hopeless. Probably due
to very poor line of sight to Crystal palace with lots of trees in the way.
During the heavy rain at the weekend I couldn't get *any* signal with
either of the indoor aerials that I tried that have worked before.

Toyed with the idea of a media centre type arrangement, but that's making
things more complicated, and would have to run off of the existing 85Mb
Homeplug network which might not be up to it.

Cheers,

Al.

When I had a shop in a town with wery little signal I had a problem selling
portable equipment. No signal. no sale

I discovered that a portable aerial plugged into the main da worked as a
good method of filling out the dead area in my shop.

I used vertical polarisation as I was in a main transmitter area and the
sets, both radio and TV all worked with a reasonable results where none
worked without.

When worked for the SSVC we used to send videos between benches and huts by
similar system. plug an aerial in the output of a vcr RF and pick up on a
TV anywhere in the workshop.

Not sure it is legal but it works. and with the advent of iplayer modulators
.. not a lot different.

Don't see how this will work nowadays though. I would think laterally,or in
this case, vertically.. What you need is a climbing plant next to the tv,
and the cane it will climb goes from floor to ceiling and just happens to
have a feed to the the aerial distribution system.
