I do hope it not a case of being incompatible. Regards David It's been availabe on the Wii for about a year already, but if you look at the shop link, or whatever it's called, you should find it's now there as a channel - no idea, our Wii isn't web connected. You might want to get a set of component cables to improve picture quality on the thing too. I have no problem getting the BBC i-player on my Wii, bought the Internet Channel a year ago and used the a cable to connect to RGB to the TV scart socket, and can get onto the internet via my wireless router. Regards David The Wii's limitations are a) its hardware and b) its browser (and associated plugins). Its not a particularly "beefy" machine processor / graphics-wise (so probably can't handle decoding HD transmissions). As Opera (for the Wii) is not customisable, you are left with it having the capabilities of the browser as built by Opera / Nintendo (subject to their updates). So currently it can handle iPlayer (at low bitrates) and youtube plus some other VOD services. I've not tried 4OD or ITVplayer but I suspect those services are not compatible with Opera on the Wii. The new Wii iPlayer Channel has allowed the BBC to write an app which is specifically tailored to the broadcasts that it serves up over iPlayer, so I guess they've made it as good as they think it can be. Its certainly much better than watching via the browser on the Wii, and whilst I don't think anyone would want to use it for watching the glory of a BBC wildlife programme, it would be absolutely fine and watchable for something like Casualty etc. Matt |

"Paul D.Smith" wrote in message ... I believe all the channels have their own "iPlayer-like" offering, but the BBC iPlayer is the most common and ported to most platforms. But yes, they are all incompatible! The Wii iPlayer especially talks directly to Beeb servers and only llists the available BBC offerings. Paul DS Ofcom thought it would better for them to compete and for users to have to goto different web sites for the services but it has also resulted in different standards being used. Good grief, a regulator without a brain - whatever next ;-). I have a wii. I have internet. how do I get the player on it? Gary |

It works better under Linux, but I use it in Windows with no problems. There are several GUIs available too. I use it daily to grab my regular radio shows/podcasts - it has a nice PVR mode - as well as occasional TV that I have missed. but I also have iPlayer beta on my Freesat box (Hummy HDR) which works well if you don't want to keep the show. |

Go to the Wii "shop" channel and you can get it for free from there. Paul DS. |

A touch dismissive don't you think!?! The player itself certainly isn't rubbish, and its more than watchable (for me on a 37inch Panasonic LCD). Of course, it doesn't compare with watching "live" or watching a perfect quality reproduction via a PVR, but if you were organised enough to record everything you might want to watch, then you wouldn't need iPlayer would you? Its much better than I thought it would be! Matt |

Lowest common denominator wins here and that's the programme source. It's a shame that :- 1. The Wii can't support 720p or 1080p 2. They could have allowed the BBC HD content to be used. yeah the picture's not great but it beats watching it on my laptop. |

Regards David i dont find the picture very clear on the Wii, its not 100% clear. It's a LOT better than it was when you used to have to use the "Internet Channel" and use the mobile-phone version of the i-Player. If you use the better cable (component video) to connect to the TV, the picture quality is not too bad. Not up to HD standards, but not far off the original Freeview. Allan |
