From Winter Hill, the adverts on 'five' analogue are often different to the
Freeview ones.
Is this intentional, or is one carrying the wrong five region?

So why ask. I also thought it was a funny question!
You can no doubt download a complete advert DVD from a torrent site.

*sigh* My interest was in the technical setup, not the adverts themselves...

Especially given how b0rked Winter Hill's setup has been lately.

Its intriguing though why anyone would get a different advert source on two
apparently networked stations.

However, I did hear some wag in the local post office say that 5 was a
stream of adverts occasionally interrupted by some rubbish called
programmes!

My disk recorders enable me to whittle out the adverts from TV programmes
before settling down to watch them, and this is what I usually do.
Typically, a programme that is shown on Channel 5 in a one hour timeslot
will end up at about forty minutes.

That's normal for commercial channels, though Five do seem to be
watching Virgin1 to see just what you can get away with.

Indeed. Though they've started the infuriating American trick of
running the ads more frequently as a film gets towards the end.

This trick is known as "Pushing The Envelope". The americans have taken
this to its ultimate level by airing adverts with just one minute of
programme material remaining (usually the 'epilogue' or denoument scene
or scenes).
