Talking to someone in the know about lost channels today.
It may be that BBC has moved from 2K to 8K but with a retune the box may still be looking for 2K. A software hard reset should cure the problem. Anyone tried that? -- Woody harrogate three at ntlworld dot com |

Incidentally, there was an item on today's BBC R4 'You and Yours' (21m 27s to 26m 15s). http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00njb1t/You_and_Yours_05_11_2009/ Digital UK's spokesman, John Askew, got himself well tied in up knots, having said yesterday that you could even make a pre-war TV set work with a set-top box! -- Ian |

from Mike Tomlinson contains these words: TBH, I'm rather tempted to replace that fourway amp with another of those NTL 3 way splitters now that I've seen just how strong a signal I'm getting from the Storeton Tx. I'm pretty certain I've got a few more left in my NTL bits box (Don't ask! ;-). It's always good to do this if you can. There's nothing worse than attenuators followed by a crap amplifier (like yours). Bill |

writes I haven't tried a retune on the desktop PC to see if ITV3 will reappear but that is only of moderate academic interest anyway since, apart from that, I appear to have successfully tuned all 6 muxes (something the USB stick signally failed to do until I attenuated the signal). Two cheapy set top boxes at home (New Brighton) picked up 8 muxes and 124 channels. Not yet had time to sort through them. Seems to be a lot in the 800s. I just want my Inverto IDL7000 PVR to work. Bought Mum one last Christmas - I knew I was taking a chance 'cos there's no longer any UK support. It picked up BBC1 and 2 on ch28 - albeit unwatchable - but doesn't like 62 much (has a think, says 'nah' and moves on.) Will persevere tonight. Other users report that if it's made to scan channels often enough it gives in and co-operates. -- Mike Tomlinson |

Labgear FV300 and FV400 have a display but cannot determine what it displays! I found a manual for the FV300 online no mention of a display. The FV400 does have a display and in it's manual it says: "LED DISPLAY: Used to display the time or channel information" Anyway this has taken a step down the priority level since I found the Sky, bless their cotton sock, have now locked (at least old) "Freesat from Sky" cards to the box they are in so you can't shuffle them about to get the regionalisation and Ch4 etc correct in multiple boxes. I might have sprung another £20 for a new card but as the proposed changes to the avaliable channels hardly affected us I wasn't going to bother. I'll definately not be jumping through hoops to get two cards and cough up £40. So I'll be looking at Freesat boxes with twin Rx's and HD/DVD record facilties. -- Cheers Dave. |

There's nothing worse than attenuators followed by a crap amplifier (like yours). Bill Thanks Bill, That was a rather neat and concise response. It confirms (from a man of experience) the 'quality' of my cheaply bought amps (from a major ham rally a few years back -Norbreck). The construction quality looked good (I know, looks can be decieving ;) and the price was right. I knew the signal off the WH antenna was good for feeding a single TV set so I just needed a fourway amp with a modest gain to cancel out splitter and feeder losses. It was only later that I realised I could also use Storeton to recieve the digital service so I diverted its feed to my son's bedroom so as to serve all the TV recievers in the house. It's only now that I've come to realise that amplification is no longer required. As soon as I've laid hands on another one of those 3 way splitters and swapped the amp out, I'll confirm the make and model of the attic 4 way amp and report back. The indications seem to be that they've boosted the TX levels of the muxes (at least at the Storeton site) which seems a bit premature considering they've only closed down a single analogue channel (perhaps all the remaining analogue channels after the mux move were no longer at risk from the effects of running the mux transmissions at full power). Does anyone know for sure if this is the case? -- Regards, John. Please remove the "ohggcyht" before replying. The address has been munged to reject Spam-bots. |

May be wrong but I think the Humax FoxT2 has such. You're not wrong, It has (and a modulator too). I don't know if they're still available, but they weren't cheap - typically £55. Secondhand, the old OnDigital boxes - various manufacturers - have a channel number display, and modulators. And survived the last retune with the split table. And have more buttons on them than most more recent boxes (OK, you may have to leave subtitles on to keep the front panel buttons working, but that shouldn't matter if you only want it as a radio!).
