Xfactor ruined AGAIN by bad sound mixing!
When will the BBC ever learn that people do NOT want random cheering and
crowd noises at the same level as presenters and singers! Another Xfactor completely ruined because of the high levels of canned screaming. The people doing the sound mixing are complete idiots and it shows that the whole production of the show leaves a lot to be desired. Time to switch over and watch something else. The show is fixed anyway. |

I like the fact that it's on air at the same time as Sickly Come Prancing as I would rather stick needles in my eyes that watch either one. Gives me a chance to do something completely different (as I am right now). -- Peter Ying tong iddle-i po! |

The show is fixed anyway. I'm convinced that 'fashion' these days is to have loud, inane, canned laughter and applause in many programmes (both TV and radio). I find it particularly annoying when watching the re-runs of the 'golden oldies', as many seem to have been 'enhanced' in order to ensure that we really know when something is funny - which, in the opinion of the 'enhancers', appears to be just about every sentence. Such 'enhancements' often render what were originally good programmes essentially unwatchable. -- Ian |

Sadly those doing 'the sound mixing' just do what the production wants. Time to switch over and watch something else. The show is fixed anyway. -- *Go the extra mile. Ah, the joys of being able to watch such rubbish on fast forward. We
spin along to hear what Stacey has to say this week, fall about laughing and then move on, waste of air time on any channel - at least the BBC don't bother with it...... |

Well its just bland viewer stupefying crap so what do you expect the decent
sound engineers to do? Go down the pub of course, leaving the limiter in charge, or worse, a young 'trainee' straight out of uni. My tongue was in my cheek, but suffice to say, no matter what is said,
engineering standards for all things have gone downhill in the years since the early 1970s, radio particularly. Does anyone even know what uncompressed audio sounds like any more? Does anyone even know what uncompressed audio sounds like any more? Broadcast systems don't generally have the dynamic range to transmit uncompressed audio. And hardly any listeners would thank you for attempting it. Compressing the dynamic range has been part and parcel of sound mixing for broadcast since pretty well it started. Originally this was done manually but by the '60s or so with the aid of compressors. Which were under the control of the sound mixer. If you are referring to the automatic devices which ruin many broadcasts in the quest for the loudest possible sound, they're more than just compressors. -- *Sticks and stones may break my bones but whips and chains excite me* Dave Plowman London SW To e-mail, change noise into sound. |
