PC TV/Radio tuner card advice
Can any one please recommend a PCI card that will receive both TV and
radio? (digital only as analogue has recently been turned off). The ability to recieve and record radio programmes (so I can convert them to whatever format I need to in order to listen to them on an MP3 player) will be the prime function of the card, recording TV is a secondary consideration. I have a Humax PVR-9200T, but the hoops I'd have to go through to be able to transfer recordings to a PC seem to be beyond me -- Cheers Peter |

Cinergy 2400i DT with dual tuners. * PCI Express card with DVB-T tuners * Record a program while watching a program on another channel * Digital television via antenna (DVB-T) * Lossless video recording * Time shifting * Electronic program guide (EPG) * Teletext http://www.terratec.net/en/products/Cinergy_2400i_DT_1588.html Of course you might consider waiting until the DVB-t2 cards become available ... |

I have it and use it with a Hauppauge DVB-S2 card for TV and radio channels.. I would expect any 'digital' Freeview or satellite card to be able to receive the radio channels on those platforms. The BBC have adopted AAC for some of their internet radio so you may find that that is better quality. -- Michael Chare |

I assume the many radio streaming sites and a card and software are not what
you are after then? Brian -- Brian Gaff - Note:- In order to reduce spam, any email without 'Brian Gaff' in the display name may be lost. Blind user, so no pictures please! Brian Could be - as long as it achieves what I want to do which is to be able to record radio programmes using some sort of EPG, initially from the BBC, and convert them in order that they can be listened to on an MP3 player - effectively all I'm trying to do is timeshift some programmes and not have to use a PC/Radio etc to listen to them Cheap and simple would be fine! -- Cheers Peter |

Even better - how about free, using get_iplayer and its PVR front-end. It's still in development but it's excellent. Yes, let's all bring the Internet to a crawl by vacating a perfectly-useable broadcast bandwidth. If you've already got a dish and cabling why not get a dual-tuner PCI card? Dabs has such an item for just over 80 quid, this one works with quad LNBs and that's just one of them. http://tinyurl.com/yarcknj -- Stephen Goodman * http://www.vimeo.com/spgoodman http://www.last.fm/music/Stephen+Goodman |

Yes, let's all bring the Internet to a crawl by vacating a perfectly-useable broadcast bandwidth. Peter is paying his ISP for bandwidth. He expects to get what he pays for. You seem to be suggesting that he pays for the internet, but not use it. I don't seem to be suggesting anything of the sort. That's not the argument at all but nearly a straw man. iplayer and for that matter any internet-based player at this time isn't a complete or pause-free substitute, at least in this version of the Internet. Did Peter get on the Internet to watch TV? If you've already got a dish and cabling why not get a dual-tuner PCI card? Yes, but is that cheaper than using get_iplayer? He wanted a cheap solution. iplayer is hardly a solution unless all one wants is the Beeb. |

You seem to be suggesting that he pays for the internet, but not use it. I don't seem to be suggesting anything of the sort. Your comment suggested that his usage would be selfish, but in fact he's paying for the bandwidth so it's not. No, my comment heavily implied that use of BBC's iPlayer or Sky's for that matter is a waste of the UK's already limited broadband capability, and a stupidly-redundant technology at best. Has the 'government' decided to sell off all air broadcasting then? iplayer and for that matter any internet-based player at this time isn't a complete or pause-free substitute, at least in this version of the Internet. It is in my version of the internet. Anyway, get_iplayer doesn't stream, it downloads the whole file if you've selected it, and then you're free to play it back afterwards however you like. Hence the "get" part :-) Your version must be in a big city near the exchange, hm? Downloading is better than streaming bandwidth wise, but If you've already got a dish and cabling why not get a dual-tuner PCI card? Yes, but is that cheaper than using get_iplayer? He wanted a cheap solution. iplayer is hardly a solution unless all one wants is the Beeb. Non sequitur. Latin pretense. |
