Most of us switched off a long time ago.

Of course now you can get sockets with radio control switches built in so
you do not have to bend down, even switching off does not stop all current
flowing. I'm surprised someone has not invented the switched
socket operated by just kicking the skirting board, device yet. Get rid of
frustrations and save power.

Be fair - Bill's "OT's" about his and his uncles' DIY and other disasters*
are quite funny, although one does wonder why in the circumstances he works
in a business that requires him to work up high ladders and with
electricity...

Q What's black and crispy and hangs from the ceiling?
A Bill Wright fitting a video projector...

Sorry Bill the original joke was not politically correct.

I like it though. I'll try to breathe some political incorrectness into it
before I send it on. Let me see now . . .

Should take you all of 10 seconds. After all, you were the person who
managed to bring up "race riots in the UK" within the original "switch of at
the socket" thread!

All this within a group dedicated to the technical discussion of digital TV
in the UK! You may well be on the way to hero status within some quarters.

True hero status requires martyrdom. I very much hope Bill avoids that.

Modesty forbids me to agree. But of course those of us who stand up for the
rights of the ordinary hard working people of this country and oppose
political correctness are likely to acquire hero status. I'm very lucky
because I can speak the truth as I see it. So many people are unable to do
this because their employment makes it impossible. Such is the grip that PC
has on this country. I was talking earlier to a friend who has appeared for
years on radio giving specialised advice (I can't be more specific). He has
been sacked because his advice 'does not make due reference to the ethnic
communities'. His subject is nothing to do with the ethnic communities,
particularly. What he had been told to do was select more questions from
Asian listeners, despite the fact that these were disappearingly rare. The
only possiblility was to get some Asians to ring up and ask 'pretend'
questions. That didn't happen, so he got the push.
