Slow channel change

Has anyone got any experience of, or heard of any problems with the Samsung
L40F86BDX when changing channels? My set can take up to 6 or 7 seconds and
even longer ometimes (up to 15 secs) when changing channels using either the
remote or the buttons on the TV.
The majority of the time it takes between 3 and 4 secs to change each
channel, and again 6 - 7 seconds between each AV device.
The set has been taken away to be evaluated by a firm of TV engineers on
behalf of the suppliers after I complained, but their initial reaction is
that 6 - 7 seconds is normal for modern large screen TVs.

Channel change on a modern digital TV set should take no more than a second.

My Samsung LE40A656 takes approx. 2/3 seconds to change channels - which
is slower than my Freeview STB.

Changing between external sources is slower at 4/5 seconds, and it takes
longer to detect a missing source if the input is not connected to
anything or the external source is not switched on.

It's not the same model as yours but my DTV only takes 1 - 2 seconds
to change channel unless I accidentally select one of those channels
that wants to load an interactive service.

Weeeellll, I'd not be too worried, even my set top box can sometimes take a
long time for no apparent reason. I'm thinking maybe its the time it takes
to retune if the channel you want is on one of the other transmitters.
Hav3e you spotted any pattern to the delays?
I agree it would be nice to have some kind of indication of what is going on
while the setting up occurs. On the netgem I also notice that when it first
gets the sound there is often no picture, via a sited person, and then the
sound gives a little glitch and the picture appears. Thus one is forced to
wonder why, if the signal is decoded enough for the sound why no picture. I
gave up worrying about it myself, as i never use the picture, but these
strange little quirks are, presumably due to some signal processing and the
set not wanting to display crap when its not sorted itself out quite yet.

No , there is no pattern. It can happen at any time and on any of the
channels, but . I also have a freesat box and this causes no problems
whatsoever.

Hi Alan

Does it ever take up to 15secs?

No, but having said that I should say that my TV is usually switched to
my twin tuner PVR and I use that as my source for Freeview. I rarely us
the TVs own tuner to watch programmes, but when I do I haven't seen the
problems you are experiencing.

IMO, the length of time the TV takes to switch between external sources
is too long at 5 seconds. This is probably due to way Samsung equipment
auto detects other Samsung equipment and the fact that I haven't got any
of their boxes connected to my TV.

Out of curiosity I've just checked out the switching times my Philips
[37PFL5522] LCD TV and a Humax 920 PVR and both confirm what others have
said, channel change takes around about a second for both, also using the
remote's D/AV button and switching directly between the TVs Freeview tuner
and the Humax connected to AV1 also takes no longer than a second.
