Since yesterday I have had problems with DVB subtitles, specifically on
ITV! West Midlands, they work ok on 888, I know that BBC1 works, but I have not tried all channels. I don't think it is my hardware as it is the same on my Humax and my Panasonic TV. Anyone else having problems, any idea as to the cause? -- Please reply to group, emails to designated address are never read. |

The reason it is allowed to happen is that nobody cares. The thing about digital telly, as everyone keeps saying, is that 'it either works or it doesn't'. In my experience it mostly doesn't. Thanks Alan, I think I will make a complaint to ITV. -- Please reply to group, emails to designated address are never read. |

I hope you have some success. In 2000 I used to write regularly to a bloke at YTV whenever the box at Crosspool needed kicking in order for it to regurgitate DVB-T subtitles. They didn't monitor it themselves. Nowadays there aren't any 'blokes' to write to of course. On satellite I've seen several ITV regions that had 888 subtitles but not DVB ones (even though they are advertised in the menu of my FTA receiver) at times. At the moment YTV on Crosspool analogue is unwatchable due to some lf noise (like the old 405-line sound-on-vision, but random) on the picture, and the BBC channels are blighted by flecks of white, as though the carrier is dropping out for a few microseconds at a time. Perhaps no one watches analogue around here any longer. Isn't this something that the RNID ought to be kicking the Companies to do properly. Whilst far from deaf I'm needing to use the sub more an more, but often they are useless.- 1) transmitted far out of sync, perhaps 20-30 seconds late. 2) "live" subs are used on "filmed live" programs even though they aren't broadcast until a later date. This means that they are transmitted out of sync (but perhaps only by 5 second). However this also means that they contain the same phonetic mistakes that live broadcasts contain and no-one make any attempt to correct this. Why do this do this? How can live subs possible be cheaper than adding them afterwards? tim |
