Do other PVRs do this?

I just configure my Topfield to ignore repeats or to only look on one
channel.

Do you mean that you disable series-link, or that the Topfield allows you
to add restriction rules to scheduled series-link recordings?

The Topfileld allows the use of third party software applications. Some
of these applications have allowed series link functionality long before
the broadcasters started implementing (badly) Freeview+.

Yes, I've been using a TAP that gives 'Series Link' functionality on my
Toppy for ages. It works very well, and with a bit of careful
programming of parameters, I rarely end up with duplicate recordings.

Mind you I've also now got the Freesat Humax PVR, not had a problem with
series links on there, but I've not recorded anything from C5 with it
yet ! One warning about the Humax, if you so much as enter 'Non
Freesat' mode, it wipes all of your record settings ! I won't be doing
that again in a hurry !

I have a Humax 9200T and I set it to record CSI and CSI New York on Five
(Tuesdays and Saturday evenings) and I only ever get those particular
shows, no repeats, nothing on other channels. I'm using the 'Series
Link' type selection.

You're right in that it seems that CSI has no spurious repeats at the
moment -- but it certainly has in the past. Last week, I got spurious
recordings for The Mentalist and The Gadget Show.

I've never had spurious recordings for any variants of CSI, this series
or otherwise. Doctor Who on the other hand, in the past I did get a few
repeats on other BBC channels mid-week I think.

????

Not on mine.
I've just confirmed that the recording schedule is intact after
switching to Non-Freesat mode and back.

I lost the entries in the recording schedule a few days ago. I think
that was because I did a Manual Tune, i.e. scan for all available
channels, not just the Freesat ones.

Ah ha, that may have been my problem. As I was entering Non Freesat mode
for the first time, obviously I ran a manual scan as part of that. I'll
note down my recording settings (just in case), and try again !!

I get something similar with their Freeview boxes - I think it's because
the channels get deleted and then re-created, and when a channel gets
deleted, any recordings set up for that channel get deleted too.

I "note them down" with a digital camera. (Don't use flash!)

The Humax Freesat PVR seems to be clever enough to retain the recording
schedule when doing a Freesat Tune to update its list of Freesat
channels.

Nice idea ! I should have thought of that, my wife has a collection of
plates on our dining room wall, I photographed them before redecorating
because (apparently) they all had to go back in the same positions !

Yes it does, though I notice it doesn't actually tell you what channels
it's removed, added, or moved.

This is the same principle as using the "movie" mode on your digital
camera to record the screen of a recalcitrant computer where you can't
see the Blue Screen Of Death before it restarts, so you can play it
back and pause it at the appropriate place, I guess. On Windows,
obviously.
