Woolacombe Bay
As part of my cheap Sun holidays tour of the UK I'll be staying in
Woolacombe Bay from July 6, just after the start of DSO there. As usual I'll be taking my Freeview PVR to the caravan. From what I read this area is served by it's own relay & I'll have the BBC2 replacement MUX available. Is this just MUX1 - BBC1/2/News/CBBC or a different one? If I have CBeebies available I'll be sorted. Cheers CD |

That's right, on July 1st Huntshaw Cross and its relays (of which Woolacombe is one) switch off BBC 2 analogue, and replace it with a high power version of Mux 1. So from July 1 until July 29, the relay will be carrying the BBC Mux, but still analogue BBC 1, ITV, and C4. If I have CBeebies available I'll be sorted. You will be sorted, because the *post* DSO version of Mux 1 carries all the digital BBC TV channels including Cbeebies and BBC 4. The *pre* DSO version does not, those two channels are on Mux B. But come on, surely you're going to be out there on that fabulous beach all day, forget about the poxy old telly :-) http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/when_do_i...huntshaw_cross -- Mark Please replace invalid and invalid with gmx and net to reply. www.paras.org.uk |

Now I thought that I once read that somebody claimed that it was not possible for the interactive streams to be on a different multiplex to the station for which it was providing opt out. So this not must not be the case, and so how have they gotten around the problem of a digital receiver being tuned to one multiplex for BBC-1 say and the viewer wants to see the red button interactive information at the same time? And whatever became of the much vaunted interactive BBC News at Ten feature -- is this still available? And when PSB-3 is cleared for DVB-t2/MPEG-4 will the picture quality on PSB-1 for the BBC stations there decrease in order to accomodate at least one interactive stream and all of the radio stations? |

The telly is for backup when the great british weather kicks in. Came in handy last week near Porthmadog, dreadful weather. |

Seemed to remember a long, steep, twisty walk down to the beach though. |

The offspring is now walking so may well take another visit. Indeed a lovely place. |

It's possible that might be put on hold ? Just because ITV plc and C4 may decide not to take up the licences which they have been awarded by OfCON for an HD service on PSB-3, does one consider that OfCON will reverse their plans and be led by the decisions of the commercial broadcasters with regard to the use of PSB-3? And any chance of an answer as to how interactive services can be on a different multiplex and still provide the same on screen interactivity? |

How easy will it be to sell DVB-T2 equipment (as add on, or replacement for existing DVB-T1 kit), that will only initially receive one HD service ? Freesat HD kit sales might provide some clues ? And any chance of an answer as to how interactive services can be on a different multiplex and still provide the same on screen interactivity? Perhaps no one in here knows ? I don't. -- Mark Please replace invalid and invalid with gmx and net to reply. www.paras.org.uk |
