Resetting FreeView

We had to re-set our FreeView boxes last week due to a change in
transmitters of some sort.

I have a neighbour who can no longer receive channel 5 on analogue TV.
Anybody know if the transmitter changes may have caused this? I did force
her TV to re-build its channel information but only channels 1 to 4 are
being received.

This is as bad as it can get, but don't bet on it

You get reception from the Rowridge transmitter on the Isle of Wight.

The CH5 transmissions used to come from the chimney of Fawley power
station (roughly in the same direction as far as you're concerned) and
they stopped on 25th March: see

http://tx.mb21.co.uk/gallery/fawley.php

So Freeview is your only option for CH5 now.

A trip to Tesco for a cheap digi box then.
If you do I find it a good idea with older people to only set the digi box
up, so they forced to use Freeview for BBC1 etc.
Other wise they try to use analogue for BBC1 etc and get themselves in a
real mess and upset.

The Southampton transmitter for channel 5 has been discontinued due to the build up
to Digital Switch Over.

Did they bother to broadcast any info captions in the run up to its closure?

There is absolutely no substitute for a genuine lack of preparation

She has Freeview from Sky as well but that had also stopped working - the
SCART plug had fallen out!
She is of the older generation and she does watch analogue as a first
choice, not sure if I can persuade her not to but I planted a seed...

I don't recall seeing any. But the main TV in this house is mainly setup on Freeview these
days, thankfully I still have normal Freeview reception here in Southampton. I only found
out about the loss of Channel 5 when the kitchen TV had no signal for Channel 5.

Don't offer help and/or advice to people if you don't know what you're
doing.
It will mean you have to ask what to do on a newsgroup and pass it off as
your
own knowledge to look the hero!
If you want to impress your neighbour, tell him/her that as a result of what
you
might have done, they need to have a new aerial fitted - because that is how
they
will now see it. You will be blamed because before you started they could
watch
their TV - now they can't as they would like or used to.
