You could ask why the Thomson needed reconditioning in the first
place! (Thomson Sky+ boxes seem to have very poor power supply
reliability.)
Go and buy a Humax for day-to-day ease of use. Some will say Topfield.

By the way, for someone who mentioned it...If the Humax is recording
two things at once, press the OK or LIST button to see which other
channels can still be watched at the same time. The ones available
will be in bright blue, the unavailable ones will be greyed out.

Humax HDR 320Gb. With its 2 tuners you can record both at once and, under
certain circumstances, view a 3rd while the others are being recorded. I
have not found out how yet.

The only drawbacks with the Humax is that you cannot edit the recorded
data. ie remove adds or breaks or save to a DVD. Also BBC HD appears to be
(is in the main) encrypted so progs cannot be saved to an external HDD.

Otherwise a very nice unit, once you are familiar with the controls.



Humax are also appalling for customer service. Forget any back up or advice.
I've got a problem with the software on my 2 year old Humax DVB TV and I've
emailed, faxed and written to them. Not even an acknowledgment. Sufficient
to say I won't buy anything else by Humax.

I have sent 2 questions to their CS, the first was replied to in 15 minutes
and the second, a more technical aspect, about 3 hours..............

No they aren't.
I had a problem with my PVR 9200 and when I phoned them up they asked me to run some tests then sent a replacement unit out by courier and collected the faulty one at the same time.

Very straightforward! You need a PVR like the Top Up TV one which
comes with a built-in HDD and two tuners, so that you can record two
channels simultaneously, if needed, and watch a recording too!

you only have to realise they did recondition, for £50-00 you cannot go
wrong.
the disc is worth £40-00.
It is guaranteed for 6 months, as far as noise is concerned I have
disconnected the fan and have had
no problems with overheating or pixelation.
I do live in a very good reception area.

The reconditioned ones will probably be customer returns that have
tested OK. (the original owners probably just had poor reception)

The Supermarkets would sell these in bulk to dealers, they often
come up on ebay, I got my Vestel that way.
It looks like ASDA is reselling these Thompsons themselves
then?

I have arranged for Humax guarantee service to be put into action a
number of times and I have found them to be helpful and efficient.
Replacement items have been dispatched direct to the users and the
faulty ones collected at the same time.
An efficient service, so long as the correct procedure is followed
with the repair dept.
