The rugby today was a hell of a lot better than yesterday's :-)
I had some neighbours round to share the enjoyment. Great game and they came
with a good supply of lager!


Wasn't a lot of fun here with a French missus who's a Rugby fan,,

TV was switched off at Half time in disgust;!...

The Sat HD experience is great, there is however a great big but at the
moment. There is so very little actually broadcast and a high percentage is
repeats or previews. Oh well so not much difference from SD in that respect.

Indeed, however, as this screen can show a signal on Tuner 2 even when
nothing is connected (and the STB is configured for two LNBs), I have never
really trusted it!

If it is finding a decent quality signal without a connection to an LNB

As far as I know, so long as the signal quality bar is in the green
there is no problem.

BTW it is cheaper to build a Home theatre PC form scratch than it is to buy
one of these freesat recorders. The PC can do all the usual record one watch
another, full EPG that is not limited to to Freesat etc - but in addition
does all the other lovely things a PC can do! Last time I priced up a decent
spec HTPC with dual DVB-T and dual DVB-S tuners (i.e. record three watch
one) it came to £250.



I just can't put up with MS in my living room, it stops and starts,
needs robooting, software patches because the OS has updated. You are
part of the operating system in a MS system, if you are not there it
will stop working after a few months.

Just one Q for the Humax users. Is there a setting whereby I can
tone down the screen on the player itself. They are very bright
digits about 200mm below the screen. When concentrating on the
picture one does not really notice the brightness but it would be
good to tone it down a little.


If you are refering to the Humax HDR, then I think the answer is no,
but the subject has arisen in the digital spy forum.

Yes thanks I am considering those from Satcure as I should have when I
bought the complete system by the look of it. The company I used, who
share remain nameless, were poor.

So hopefully the bright display may be a future software mod. A piece
of blue acetate behind the door for the moment then............



I took the glare right down on my Humax HDR by inserting a red sweet
wrapper film behind the drop down flap. It is still readable in a tasty
red glow :-)

how are you finding the HDR, I really enjoyed the rugby yesterday and it
does make a lot of difference to the watchability......IMHO...that is.

anyone living in Winchester want to hire a Sat meter.............what do
we do with it after use............bung it in a drawer somewhere until
next time, when it will be lost to the world.

yes the ruger was good especially as we beat the Frenchies and I enjoyed
Larkrise........

are you viewing with a HDR 320 and if so perhaps you could answer a Q.
Pressing i on the handset, the info plate pops up, along the bottom right
hand are 2 horizontal bands coloured red, amber and green. Are these the
signal strengths from both tuners. If so the top one of mine does not
quite cover the green, is that OK or can I adjust it somehow.

I did not recognise the 320 description at first. I changed the hard drive
in my foxsat to 1 tera byte a while back. Works like a dream.
It was easy to copy forward from the old drive to the new one all the
programmes that I still want to access from the Media button.

Thanks - but presumably you'd still need an OS too, so that's another
£90+ to the bill - or is there a GBPVR running under Linux? Plus I'd
want a nice case too, and silent running, so perhaps closer to
£400/£450 sounds more likely.
