Is there an optimum viewing distance for 42" LCD tv's? At present we are approx 8 to 9ft away and the screen is mounted at eye level. With that size TV my optimum viewing distance would be about 12-15'. Some may like it at 6'. You have to decide this for yourself. There is no specific optimum distance that would fit everyone. -- Want the ultimate in free OTA SD/HDTV Recorder? http://mythtv.org My Tivo Experience http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/tivo.htm Tivo HD/S3 compared http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/mythtivo.htm AMD cpu help http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/cpu.php |

So, for a 42" LCD, 63"-84" - or 5.25 to 7.0 feet from the set. A lot depends on your visual acuity and comfort level. |

If any of you can see individual pixels from any given distance, that's too close. If what you see looks good, that's an acceptable distance. If it isn't, back off until it is. Eye level means you are minimizing neck problems and distortion, so that's good by my lights. |

I'm maybe 12 feet from my 42" and I'm thinking its a bit small, but I've had it now for 3 years + and of course its starting to get small, I see 60" out there now and kinda would like to see something in that range in the house. It greed. But my 42" at 12ft is not "bad". I'm 10-12 feet from my 65" and I could easily see having the 73". It's a personal decision. Thumper I have a 73", and 12 ft is just fine (my main seating choice). Other seating is as far away as twice that distance, and still quite view-able. |
