Mains spikes interfere with picture.

My mains supply is a bit spiky. Putting a filter on my PC has stopped
fairly frequent crashes and I'm sure a filter on my TV would stop
occasional problems. The type of multi socket filter on my PC won't
fit on my TV. I need a single filter no bigger than a standard MK type
plug. The filter is a plug/socket combination that plugs into the
socket and the TV plugs into the filter. They did exist a few years
ago but I can't find any now.

Anyone know a source?

Steve

Thanks for that. I didn't realise they were so expensive. I'll have to
think again about spike suppression.

If you are competent to make them up, buy some varistors, put one inside
a 13A plug top, and plug this into the first socket on a mains
distribution block. Kills spikes.

There are cheap-ass alternatives...

Just a varistor in a plug?

If I had mains that bad I'd be reporting it in case its a much larger
problem just waiting to happen.

Quite a lot of power in a spike. Having said that, I used to have some
little disc shaped things you just wired in the plug with the wire that
seemed to be very good at most 'normal;' spikes.

Thanks again. I did have the necessary skills as I worked for years in
electronics but that was a long time ago.

I'm thinking that the Belkin MasterCube may work. I'm going to borrow
one for a few days.

You could try the Russ Andrews website - www.russandrews.com, I think.
The Tacima mains power strip seems to be well received and not too
expensive - Maplins, Keene for that, although Maplins is getting a bit
pricey nowadays, IMO.

They just go across the live and neutral in a plug, right? It's such a
long time since I've made anything up like this, I have to think twice
nowadays (probably because I'm also getting old I suppose!).
